This memo serves as a reminder of the dyslexia reporting requirements and enforcement policy added to Ark. Code Ann. § 6-41-601 et seq. by Act 1039 of 2017.  

 

Dyslexia Reporting

Ark. Code Ann. § 6-41-606 has two requirements for dyslexia reporting by the district. 

1.  eSchool reporting of students receiving dyslexia intervention

The superintendent of a school district annually shall report the results of the school district screening required under Ark. Code Ann. § 6-41-603. All students who received dyslexia intervention during the 2017-18 school year must be marked in eSchool.  This data will be pulled during cycle 7.  

 

2.  Website posting- Before July 15 

Reporting by the School District under Ark. Code. Ann. 6-41-606(b) mended the provisions to include an additional reporting requirement. Before July 15, each public school district shall report on the website of the public school district or in writing to the parents of each student in the public school district the following information: 

  • The dyslexia intervention programs used during the previous school year that were specifically responsive to assisting students with dyslexia; 
  • The number of students during the previous school year who received dyslexia intervention; and 
  • The total number of students identified with dyslexia during the previous school year (Ark. Code Ann. § 6-41-606 (b)).

    During the 20XX-20XX school year, Anywhere Public School District used the evidenced-based XYZ Dyslexia Intervention Program in small group intervention to address the deficit areas of students identified as exhibiting the characteristics of dyslexia. 
  • Number of Students Who Received Dyslexia Intervention
    During the 20XX-20XX school year, ## students attending Anywhere Public School District received dyslexia intervention services from a trained dyslexia interventionist. 
  • Total Number of Students Identified as Exhibiting the Characteristics of Dyslexia During the 20XX-20XX school year,  ## students attending Anywhere Public School District were identified as exhibiting the characteristics of dyslexia

 3. Enforcement—Rules.       

 

Effective August 1, 2017, a public school district that fails to comply with Ark. Code Ann. § 6-41-601 et seq. shall be in violation of the Standards for Accreditation of Arkansas Public Schools and School Districts and may be placed on probationary status. A public school district placed on probationary status shall report the reason for being placed on probationary status on the website of the public school district and by written notification to the parents of each student in the public school district.
