Memo Text
The Arkansas Department of Education is partnering with the
Little Rock FBI Office, the Arkansas Drug Director’s Office, and many other
state and local organizations to bring awareness to the opioid addiction crisis
in Arkansas. School districts will have the opportunity again this year to
participate in a statewide same-day viewing of "Chasing the Dragon,” a
documentary developed by the FBI that highlights the opioid crisis and its
impact on individuals, families, and communities.
The one-day showing will occur on Wednesday, October 28 during Red Ribbon Week. School districts
who plan to show the video should register at http://arkaltedu.org/chasing-the-dragon/ by October 16. (The
official invitation from the Little Rock FBI Office is attached.) Through
invitation, local and state law enforcement officers are also available to
attend a showing at the school to answer questions and provide information.
Red Ribbon Week Tips: Because
of Department of Health guidelines regarding COVID-19, school districts will
need to modify how they normally would show the video. Schools are encouraged to show the video via
the district’s chosen digital platform. These same platforms can be used to
encourage participation between local law enforcement, Red Ribbon Week guest
speakers, and students.
Hashtag: Districts
and schools are encouraged to post pictures of their Red Ribbon Week activities
on their websites and social media using #ARRedRibbonWeek. Arkansas PBS also
plans to launch a webpage with Red Ribbon Week resources. Stay tuned for more
information, and be sure to follow ADE at the links below.
