Memo Text

This Commissioner’s Memo is intended to provide Arkansas educators with updates to the Arkansas Department of Education (ADE) Office of Computer Science facilitated Arkansas Advanced High School Computer Science Professional Development Bonus Program, which provides eligible educators with up to $500 in bonuses for completion of certain advanced level trainings.

Under this program Arkansas educators holding the 528 Computer Science Endorsement, 5016 Computer Science Approval Code, 5014 Computer Science Technical Permit, or 5013 Computer Science Technical Permit for Classified Staff on their Arkansas Educator's License are eligible for this bonus by attending and completing approved advanced training sessions. The approved trainings will be posted at http://bit.ly/CSforARPD as they are scheduled. Approved trainings will explicitly indicate that a particular training is approved for the Advanced High School Computer Science Professional Development Bonus.

The changes to this program, are that:

  • the maximum allowable bonus per advanced training has been increased to up to $500,
  • participants completing Arkansas based AP Computer Science A Summer Institutes are eligible for this bonus program,
  • applications will only be accepted August 15th through September 30th and February 1st through March 15th of each school year in accordance with Commissioner's Memo (COM-22-001),
  • for trainings completed prior to August 1, 2021, the maximum allowable amount is $100 per day, and
  • for trainings taking place after August 1, 2021, partial criteria applications will no longer be accepted (applicant must complete all scheduled days of the approved training to be eligible for any bonuses), and the allowable bonus amount (maximum of $500) for each training will be established and communicated to participants by the ADE Office of Computer Science.

To apply for the Advanced High School Computer Science Professional Development Bonus Program payment, educators must complete the application found at: http://bit.ly/ADCSforARBonus.

The bonus applicant will be required to upload a single PDF that contains documentation that demonstrates completion of the requirements of the bonus being sought.

Disbursements of bonuses will be made in accordance with Commissioner's Memo (COM-22-001).

Educators receiving any of these bonuses are not disqualified from 5652 PRAXIS reimbursement.

Funding for this bonus program is provided by the ADE as part of Governor Asa Hutchinson’s Computer Science Initiative. The bonus program is subject to the availability of funding and allowable appropriation of funds. The program may be canceled, and amounts awarded under the program are subject to change, with or without advanced notice at the discretion of ADE.
