Memo Text

School district student discipline policies are to be developed through the cooperation and involvement of district administrators, teachers, students, parents, and counselors. The policies are to describe the district's expectations of student conduct and specify the consequences of violating the rules. The required disciplinary policies may be contained in student handbooks.

Annually by August 1st, each public school district shall post all student discipline policies (student handbooks) on the district website under State-Required Information. (Standard 3-A.9). Districts are no longer required to submit hard copies to the Equity Assistance Center of the Division of Elementary and Secondary Education.

In accordance with Ark. Code Ann. § 6-18-504, any school district failing to file the disciplinary policies with the Division by posting them on the district website, shall have all state aid funds withheld until such disciplinary policies are filed.

Any new policies or modifications to existing school district student discipline policies after August 1st, must be submitted to the Division within 30 days of board approval.
