School
district student discipline policies are to be developed through the cooperation
and involvement of district administrators, teachers, students, parents, and
counselors. The policies are to describe the district's expectations of
student conduct and specify the consequences of violating the rules. The
required disciplinary policies may be contained in student handbooks.
Annually by August 1st, each public school district shall
post all student discipline policies (student
handbooks) on the district website under State-Required Information.
(Standard 3-A.9). Districts
are no longer required to submit hard copies to the Equity Assistance Center of
the Division of Elementary and Secondary Education.
In
accordance with Ark. Code Ann. § 6-18-504, any school district failing to file
the disciplinary policies with the Division by posting them on the district
website, shall have all state aid funds withheld until such disciplinary policies
are filed.
Any
new policies or modifications to existing school district student discipline
policies after August 1st, must be submitted to the Division within
30 days of board approval.
