November PLC Professional Development Opportunities

November professional development opportunities are available free of charge in order to support your school or district in implementing or sustaining the actionable practices found through a professional learning community culture.  The Professional Development calendar can be accessed through the DESE website on the ERZ webpage

November 4th -  Virtual Session - Target audience:  Secondary Educators, ESOL, Social Studies, and Civic Educators:  Kathy Glass, author and consultant, will present two sessions.  Register for these sessions at ESC Works Session #454979.  (Use the same link to register for the morning or afternoon session.)

Morning session (9:00-11:30am), the presenter will identify vocabulary acquisition and usage standards and brief highlights of vocabulary research to set the stage. Teachers will receive materials and can immediately apply the content presented in their classroom.

  Afternoon session (12:30-3:00pm), the presenter will explain the difference between holistic and analytic rubrics, the purposes for using each, and rubric components. She will demonstrate ways to use rubrics and checklists and aligned tools campus wide.

November 5th - (9:00 - noon)  - Virtual Session - Phil Warrick, author and consultant, will engage participants in developing proficiency scales.  Register at ESC Works Session #458601.

The workshop will begin with direct instruction about what proficiency scales are and how they can enhance learning for all students and culminate with creating proficiency scales. 

November 5th - (8:30 am - 3:00 pm)  Face to Face at University of Arkansas at Fort Smith in the Echols Conference Center.  Lunch will be provided. - Target audience - Grades Pre K - 2nd Grade Educators.  Register at ESC Works Session #460251.

The PLC at Work Process:  Grades Pre K - 2nd grade with authors and consultants, Brian Butler and Diane Kerr.  The goal of this workshop is to provide educators with the research for the work of a PLC at Work school and provide practical application for the work of PreK-2 teams. Participants will leave the session having identified specific next steps for their work. 

November 15th - (9:00 am - 3:00 pm) - Virtual session - Register at ESC Works Session #457611.  Casey Ahner, consultant, will provide a road map showing the connections between PLCs and HRS. He will provide resources for participants to assist in developing an instructional model. 

November 30th - (9:00 - noon) - Virtual session - Register at ESC Works Session #455525. Dr. Shelley Gies, Marzano associate, will lead district and school leaders in reviewing and understanding their High Reliability Schools Survey data and coach school leaders who are seeking their High Reliability Schools certification.  Participants will learn how to interpret this data to focus their work and set priorities.  Attendees should bring their HRS survey results.
