The Arkansas Department of Education (ADE) Office of Computer Science is pleased to announce its support for up to 35 Arkansas teachers to attend the 2022 Computer Science Teachers Association (CSTA) Annual Conference in Chicago, IL. The purpose of these sponsorships is to provide financial assistance to Arkansas educators so they may expand their knowledge of computer science and network with other educators from around the world through the unique experience of the CSTA Conference.


Selected educators will be eligible for up to $2,000.00 in travel reimbursement for actual travel expenses incurred as part of the conference. These reimbursements will not be made until after the conference. This application is open to teachers, librarians, curriculum coordinators, counselors, and other educators who serve as an example of a passionate technology integrator and/or computer science educator in their Arkansas K-12 public school or district. Individuals who were selected to receive a sponsorship in 2020, but had to cancel due to COVID, will be given priority points on our selection rubric.


To be eligible for the travel reimbursement, selected educators will be required to: 


  • Attend the CSTA Conference in person in Chicago, IL on July 14–17, 2022,

  • Attend an Arkansas delegation event while at the conference,

  • Be present for and participate in taking Arkansas delegation photos during the conference,

  • Provide ADE with a completed ADE photo release form, 

  • Acknowledge that the travel reimbursement of up to $2,000.00 can only be provided at the conclusion of the conference and may not cover all expenses,

  • Provide ADE with copies of conference registration, travel, hotel, and other appropriate receipts by August 1, 2022, and

  • Acknowledge that, while session attendance and participation will not be monitored, the purpose of this award is to assist Arkansas educators expand their knowledge of computer science and network with other educators from around the world through participating in conference activities.


Responsibilities of selected educators include, but may not be limited to:

  • Personally registering for the CSTA 2022 Conference,

  • Personally registering for any housing/hotel needs,

  • Personally arranging for all travel needs,

  • Informing appropriate school and district leadership of this sponsorship, and

  • Being liable and responsible for any and all taxes owed in connection with the award.


Selected educators may not be reimbursed for expenses if they do not or cannot attend the conference, for any reason, and/or do not meet the outlined requirements above. Educators who are concerned about this should take steps to protect themselves against loss as they see fit. 


The ADE Office of Computer Science is taking applications until 11:45p.m. on January 31, 2022, via the application form found at https://www.surveymonkey.com/r/ARCSTA2022.  Results from that application will be used to make the selections. Selected teachers will be contacted and publicly announced by ADE by 4:00p.m. on February 11, 2022.

 

Funding for these sponsorships is being provided by the ADE Office of Computer Science, and is subject to the availability of funds appropriated by legislative act.
