Memo Text

The Division of Elementary and Secondary Education is conducting a survey of all novice teachers in an effort to better understand their preparation and early career experiences. In Arkansas, a novice teacher is defined as a teacher who has completed less than three (3) school years of classroom teaching experience. Therefore, all teachers with 0, 1, and 2 years of experience for the 21-22 school year as reported and certified by districts through the SIS Cycle Submission process will receive access to the survey. The survey will be distributed directly to the novice teacher's school email address.

The survey will collect data around the following:

  • Preparation in the four Teacher Excellent and Support System (TESS) domains
  • Teacher induction/mentoring experiences
  • Career trajectory

Principals will also receive a survey that will access the preparation in the four TESS domains of their novice teachers who completed an educator preparation program between September 1, 2020 and August 31, 2021. This survey will be sent directly to the principal's email and should be completed by the supervisor of the novice teacher.

Both surveys are scheduled for distribution in May 2022.
