The United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) has approved the following waivers for School Food Authorities (SFA)s administering the Seamless Summer Option (SSO) during Summer 2022 and the School Breakfast Program (SBP) and National School Lunch Program (NSLP) during the 2022-2023 school year.  The flexibilities allowed by the waivers will only be approved when congregate meal service is limited due to a current COVID-19 occurrence.  A COVID-19 occurrence could encompass student absences because of children having COVID, isolations due to COVID, or a community outbreak of COVID.  The flexibilities allowed by the waivers will not be approved based on staff shortages, supply chain disruptions, or increases in gas prices.

SSO – Available May 1, 2022 – September 30, 2022

  • Waiver 1: Non-Congregate Meal Service during Summer 2022
  • Waiver 2: Parent/Guardian Meal Pickup during Summer 2022

SBP and NSLP – Available July 1, 2022 – June 30, 2023

  • Waiver 3: Non-Congregate Meal Service
  • Waiver 4: Parent/Guardian Meal Pickup
  • Waiver 5: Meal Service Times
  • Waiver 6: Offer Versus Serve

Fresh Fruit and Vegetable Grant Program (FFVP) Available July 1, 2022 – June 30, 2023

The flexibilities under these waivers may only be implemented when the FFVP elementary school is closed for in-person instruction and congregate meal service is limited due to a COVID-19 occurrence.

  • Waiver 14: Parent/Guardian Pickup
  • Waiver 15: Alternate Site

The Child Nutrition Unit may approve the use of waivers for a set period of time if there is an increase transmission of COVID-19 causing an outbreak.  If the outbreak is significant and the school must stop in-person instruction; these waivers will serve as an opportunity for schools to continue to provide meals to students.

Any district wishing to apply for the above waivers may do so by filling out this FORM.
