Memo Text

The Arkansas Department of Education (ADE) Office of Computer Science is pleased to announce the state is continuing to provide Arkansas seniors with Computer Science Completer graduation cords. These cords are available at no cost to any Arkansas senior (public, private, or homeschooled) who is graduating with a minimum of three credits of ADE approved high-school computer science coursework.

“The opportunity for students to complete a computer science course in high school is great, but the opportunity to complete a program of study in Computer Science will provide students an opportunity to have a skillset beyond the average high school graduate! Providing Arkansas graduates a unique opportunity to be college and career ready in the area of computer science.”  Ross White; Director Arkansas Division of Career and Technical Education.

Cords may be requested using the form found at: https://csforar.info/CompleterCords.

Please note, only school counselors/registrars may request these cords for students enrolled in public or private schools. Parents of homeschooled students may request a cord for their child.

The ADE Division of Career and Technical Education (DCTE) fully supports awarding one of these graduation cords to a student who has earned a minimum of three credits of ADE approved high school computer science coursework; however, DCTE also has a specific designation for “completer” status for school data reporting purposes. The requirements for a student receiving one of the Arkansas CS Completer Cords does not modify existing requirements for a student to be recognized as an official completer under the reporting requirements of DCTE.

This is Computer Science Education Week. Arkansas is releasing a new Computer Science related announcement and/or commitment each day of this week. For a full listing of the announcements as they are made, please visit the ADE Computer Science Website at: https://csforar.info/CompSciEdWeek
