Memo Text

The Arkansas Department of Education (ADE) Office of Computer Science is pleased to announce the seventh annual Governor’s All-Region and All-State Coding Competition. This year’s competition is sponsored by ARCodeKids and Microsoft Philanthropies. This competition is open to Arkansas public, private, and homeschooled school students in grades 8-12.

This competition has had more than 2,200 students participate since its inception. For the second year, Microsoft Philanthropies will provide funding for the program. Previous competition cycles were funded by Verizon.

This year’s competition will include regional qualifying competition events and a state-level competition. The regional events are scheduled to take place on Friday, March 3, 2023, and the state competition is scheduled for Saturday, April 29, 2023.

Due to the success and participation of our regional events over the past two years, it has been decided that the regional events will remain digital. Note: School sponsors are advised that for regional events there will not be a delay for inclement weather and to make necessary contingency plans. The state competition event will be in-person.

The ADE Office of Computer Science has established a webpage http://bit.ly/ARCodingComp to provide interested parties with information regarding regional and state competition. This dedicated webpage will be updated as information is released. This includes rules, logistics for the event and registration information.

Students who place on 1st, 2nd or 3rd place teams will receive the following award amounts as deposits into established 529 College Savings Plans:

  • 1st Place - $2,000 per student
  • 2nd Place - $1,000 per student
  • 3rd Place - $500 per student

Schools that sponsor the 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place teams will receive the following awards to support their computer science program:

  • 1st Place - $10,000
  • 2nd Place - $6,000
