Section 6-28-116 of the Arkansas Code states:

A public school with twenty (20) or more children of military families enrolled as students or a public school with a total of three thousand (3,000) or more students enrolled shall:
(1) Incorporate into the policies of the public school specific procedures that outline actions to take in support of students who are the children of military families who transition to and from the public school.
(2)
(A) Designate each public school district a military education coordinator to serve as the primary point of contact for each child of a military family and his or her parent or legal guardian.
(B) The public school military education coordinator shall have specialized knowledge regarding the educational needs of children of military families and the obstacles that children of military families face in obtaining an education.

The Division of Elementary and Secondary Education has scheduled online training for district military education coordinators (DMECs). This training may also be used for school military liaisons as a requirement of the Arkansas Purple Star School program.

Three sessions will be held; attendees need to attend only one session.

The dates are:

January 19, 2023, 9 a.m. to 10:30 a.m.

February 14, 2023, 10 a.m. to 11:30 a.m.

March 8, 2023, 1 p.m. to 2:30 p.m.

April 13, 2023, 2 p.m. to 3:30 p.m.

Additional sessions may be scheduled depending on demand.
