Month of the Military Child was created by the U.S. Department of Defense in 1986 to recognize and honor the hardships and sacrifices of children of military families. The month is observed every April across the United States and overseas, and purple is the color used to observe the month. Arkansas has participated proudly for many years.
School districts are encouraged to engage in activities throughout the month of April 2023 to celebrate Month of the Military Child. A list of ideas provided by the Arkansas Council for Military Children is attached to this memorandum:
Arkansas will observe Purple Up! Day on April 21, 2022. School faculty, staff, and students are encouraged to wear purple on that day to demonstrate support for the children of military families.
School activities in observance of Month of the Military Child may be used to fulfill one of the requirements to qualify as an Arkansas Purple Star School.
