The Arkansas Behavior Support Specialists (BSS) affiliated with the Arkansas Department of Elementary and Secondary education (DESE) - Office of Special Education - will be accepting applications for the fourth cohort of the BX³ (Behavior eXtreme 3 - Training, Coaching, Empowering) project.  This BX³ project is designed to build capacity by providing coaching to building-level behavior teams that are working to develop tiered systems of positive behavior supports for all students.

This project will assist BX³ teams in developing and monitoring at least one SMART goal based on their assessment on the Tiered Fidelity Inventory (TFI) aimed at developing positive behavior supports.  Additionally, the BX³ team will create and update an action plan focused on meeting their individualized SMART goal(s). The BSS will offer at least 6 coaching sessions (one per month) for each BX³ team.  Professional learning opportunities will be offered as needed based on the SMART goal(s) and action plan.  

Requirements for Participation in the BX³ Project:

  1. Have an established school building-level behavior team that meets at least monthly.
  2. Have attended at least Day 1 of the School-wide Positive Behavior Supports (SWPBS) training offered by Arkansas Behavior Support Specialists (BSS) by Sept 1, 2023. (all team members are required to attend)  NOTE: Your local BSS can help your team locate upcoming training dates and locations.
  3. Have submitted signed "Letter of Understanding" (provided in the application).

Expectations for participation (if selected):

  • Attend a 1-day regional kickoff meeting where teams will assess their current level of tiered behavior supports by completing the Tiered Fidelity Inventory (TFI).
  • Develop and monitor progress of at least one SMART goal related to tiered behavior supports.
  • Create and update an action plan focused on meeting SMART goal(s).
  • Participate in monthly coaching sessions with Behavior Support Specialists (BSS) in the 2023-24 school year with an option to continue into the following school year(s). The BSS will offer at least 6 coaching sessions (one per month for 2-3 hours) for each BX³ team. All team members will be expected to attend each monthly coaching session unless other plans are made with BSS coaches.
  • Hold independent monthly behavior team meetings (in addition to coaching sessions with BSS).

Schools that wish to participate in the BX³ project for the 2023-24 school year should submit this application, completed by a building-level administrator, no later than 4:30PM on Friday, April 14, 2023. School teams selected for participation in the BX³ project will be notified by May 5, 2023, with next steps and additional details.  Cohort 4 will begin in September 2023.
