2023 - 2024 Great North American Eclipse in Arkansas

Subject: Arkansas Partial Eclipse October 14, 2023

When:  Send out CM in September 2023

Many parts of Arkansas will experience a total solar eclipse in 2024. However, many areas of the state will experience a partial eclipse on Saturday, October 14, 2023. This is a good out-of-school opportunity to build up excitement and curiosity about these celestial events.

During the Arkansas partial solar eclipse, the percentage of the eclipse will vary across the state. For more details about the partial eclipse, the Arkansas Department of Heritage, Parks, and Tourism is a source of information for viewing from various cities and the percentages of solar coverage cities will experience.

As with any solar eclipse, NASA-approved solar eclipse glasses are needed to view the eclipse safely. Information for schools about the 2024 Great North American Eclipse can be found on the ADE AR Ready for STEM page and includes the following:

  • Safety recommendations including information about FREE NASA-approved safety glasses,
  • Resources including lessons, events, and activities,
  • Professional development opportunities, and
  • Access to related websites.
