A.C.A. § 6-28-116(a)(1) requires all public school districts and charter schools to designate a District Military Family Education Coordinator (DMEC) to serve as the primary point of contact for  each child of a military family and his or her parent or legal guardian.  Each school district is required to provide the DMEC’s name and contact information to DESE by September 1 annually.  This may be done during Cycle 8 reporting.  The DMEC’s contact information is to be posted on the school district’s web page in a section for military families.

DMECs are to be involved in developing the district’s family and community engagement plan. 

DESE will offer a series of training and information events for DMECs beginning in August 2025 through May 2026.  Each session will provide information on different topics, and each will include a guest presenter from an organization relevant to military families.  The sessions will be held online using Microsoft Teams.

Each session will be offered twice to afford more opportunities for DMECs to attend.  One session will be held on Tuesdays at 1:00 PM; the second will be held on Wednesdays at 9:00 AM.  DMECs need only one of the two sessions.

DMECs are encouraged to attend the bimonthly meetings of the Arkansas Council for Military Children.   The meeting schedule is available at this link:  ACMC Meeting Schedule.  Each meeting is held at a different location; a Teams link is provided for persons wishing to attend online.  The location and link are provided in the schedule.  The schedule also includes a link to the agenda and documents that will be discussed during the meeti9ng.
