Memo Text

The Division of Elementary and Secondary Education is providing information for two Paraprofessional Praxis® test updates:

  1. Educational Testing Services (ETS) has extended the Parapro Praxis® (1755) expiration date from August 31, 2026 to August 31, 2027.

  2. Educational Testing Services (ETS) has recalculated the ParaPathways: Reading and Writing Praxis® (5758) passing score at -2SEM from 324 to 322, effective September 1, 2026.
    1. There was no adjustment to the ParaPathways: Mathematics Praxis® (5759) as the passing score remains at 325.

The ParaPathways (5757) Praxis® was released on September 1, 2025. The previous Parapro (1755) Praxis® will continue to be available until August 31, 2027, giving test takers the choice of test version.

The underlying federal requirements have not changed. Under 34 C.F.R. § 200.58(b-c), all Title I Paraprofessionals who provide instructional support, or those who work in a Targeted Assisted building paid (all or in part) with Title I funds are required to meet highly qualified guidelines as outlined in Section 1111(g)(2)(m) of the Elementary and Secondary Education Act (ESEA):

  • Obtain an associates (or higher) degree; OR
  • Earned a minimum of 60 college credit hours at a regionally accredited institution of higher education; OR

  • Met a rigorous standard of quality and be able to demonstrate, through a formal State or local academic assessment, knowledge of and the ability to assist in instructing, reading, writing, and mathematics (or, as appropriate, reading readiness, writing readiness, and mathematics readiness). In Arkansas, the formal test accepted is the Educational Testing Services (ETS) Parapro (1755) or Parapathways (5757) and obtain the following passing scores:
